Some of Blackbird's personal favorites are listed under here. Not all of these are intended to be permanent, but they ARE intended to be done properly!
Name: Corset Piercing
Description: a series of piercing on the back, parallel lines, one on each side of the spine. Lace or ribbon can then be used to “lace” the piercing together, to imitate the way a corset is laced and tied in the back.
healing Time: this is considered a play piercing and is very rarely healed due to location and the amount of movement/stretching on the back.
Aftercare: wash thoroughly after removing the piercing.
Jewelry: most often just done with needles without putting jewelry in, though D rings or CBRs could be used temporarily. To keep this as a permanent piercing one would need to use surface bars, though they would not be possible to lace. surface bars will decrease your chances of rejection over any other jewelry
How to DIY: Gather your needles. The easiest ones to lace are the angiocath needles, or needles that have been corked.
Mark the entrance and exit holes for each individual place to be pierced. Generally speaking, corset piercings are done by inserting the needle vertically, but they can be done horizontally.
Pinch the skin together, making the entrance and exit holes line up. Position the needle, then push through swiftly! Adjust as needed, then cork the sharp ends. Do this for all the areas to be pierced.
HINT: If you are doing them close together, avoid doing it in such a way that you will have to pinch or pull on newly-pierced skin.
ALL PLAY PIERCINGS ARE DONE SIMILARLY.
Name: Nape
Description: a surface piercing done on the back (or nape) of the neck.
healing Time: (surface piercings are difficult to heal, and as such we cannot project a healing time, as many surface piercings reject)
Aftercare: Wash with gentle soap twice a day, sea salt soaks 1-2 times per day, optional hot compresses.
Jewelry: surface bar will decrease your chances of rejection over any other jewelry
How to DIY: Unless you have an amazing ability to either turn your head or position mirrors perfectly, you will need a friend or nearby sadist to do this.
The nape is essentially the scruff of the neck, or the area where skin is slightly looser. mark BOTH the entrance and exit holes. Pinch the skin together, with the entrance hole and the exit hole atop one another. Line up the needle, and push the needle through. Insert surface bar.
Name: Madison
Description: this is a surface piercing at the base of the neck in front, in the indentation of the collar bone
healing Time: (surface piercings are difficult to heal, and as such we cannot project a healing time, as many surface piercings reject)
Aftercare: Wash with gentle soap twice a day, sea salt soaks 1-2 times per day, optional hot compresses.
Jewelry: surface bar will decrease your chances of rejection over any other jewelry
How to DIY: You will need a sterile piercing needle and your jewelry (preferably autoclaved). Also, it is best if you can do this while wearing rubber gloves (like your doctor). The best jewelry to use is one that will allow for swelling.
Using both index fingers, find your collar bones. Trace them inward, finding the two knobby areas. From there, find the slope that leads down into the hollow. Once you’ve found an area that has sufficient skin, mark the entrance and exit holes. Pinch the skin together, with the entrance hole and the exit hole atop one another. Line up the needle, and push the needle through. Insert surface bar.
Name: Hand Web
Description: a piercing of the hand, that goes through the slight web between the thumb and first finger.
healing Time: this piercing is difficult to heal, due to the constant movement and stretching of the area.
Aftercare: Wash with gentle soap twice a day, sea salt soaks 1-2 times per day, optional hot compresses.
Jewelry: curved or straight barbell, cbr if pierced shallow
How to DIY: You will need a sterile piercing needle and your jewelry (preferably autoclaved). Also, it is best if you can do this while wearing rubber gloves (like your doctor). The best jewelry to use is one that will allow for swelling.
Spread hand out so that the web is visible and taut.Mark the area, push the needle in, put in jewelry.
Name: misc. surface piercing
Description: an unnamed surface piercing located anywhere on the body
healing Time: (surface piercings are difficult to heal, and as such we cannot project a healing time, as many surface piercings reject)
Aftercare: Wash with gentle soap twice a day, sea salt soaks 1-2 times per day, optional hot compresses.
Jewelry: surface bar will decrease your chances of rejection over any other jewelry
How to DIY: Generally, you will need to find an area with a sufficient amount of skin/fat to make this piercing work.
You will need a sterile piercing needle and your jewelry (preferably autoclaved). Also, it is best if you can do this while wearing rubber gloves (like your doctor). The best jewelry to use is one that will allow for swelling, which should be a surface bar to reduce rejection.
You will need to mark all the entrance/exit holes, as well as paths of trajectory for the needle.
Name: chin piercing
Description: a surface piercing of the face that does not pass through the mouth, but pierces the external chin, usually vertically, entering in the top of the chin and coming out at the bottom of the jaw line.
healing Time: (surface piercings are difficult to heal, and as such we cannot project a healing time, as many surface piercings reject)
Aftercare: Wash with gentle soap twice a day, sea salt soaks 1-2 times per day, optional hot compresses.
Jewelry: Straight or curved barbell, curved surface bar
How to DIY: In the area where the cleft of the chin is or would be is the positioning of this piercing.
Mark the enter and exit holes, and pinch together. You will push the needle in from the top. To do this, hold the needle so that the beveled end is pointing towards your chest. Pierce, then insert jewelry.
Name: Cleavage Piercing
Description: this is a surface piercing that sits vertically on the sternum, in between the breasts or pectoral muscles.
healing Time: (surface piercings are difficult to heal, and as such we cannot project a healing time, as many surface piercings reject)
Aftercare: Wash with gentle soap twice a day, sea salt soaks 1-2 times per day, optional hot compresses
Jewelry: surface bar
How to DIY: Poke around your sternum to make sure there’s enough skin! Once you’ve found an area that has sufficient skin, mark the entrance and exit holes. Pinch the skin together, with the entrance hole and the exit hole atop one another. Line up the needle, and push the needle through. Insert surface bar.
